✦ BETA FEATURE

Nebula

Galyxy's own built-in cloud storage — experimental, free, and honest about its limitations.

⚠️
SUMMARY OF RISKS
  • Nebula is not encrypted. Files are stored directly and raw on a personal home server.
  • Nebula is not stable. The server can go offline at any time — no uptime guarantees.
  • Nebula is severely limited. All accounts are capped at 5 GB of storage.
  • Nebula is not suitable for sensitive data. Do not store passwords, financial info, or private documents.
  • Data on Nebula may be lost. There are no redundant backups. Hardware/software failure = data loss.
  • To use Nebula you must agree to the relevant Terms of Service outlined below.
✦ WHAT IS NEBULA?

Nebula is Galyxy's own experimental cloud storage backend. Unlike the primary Galyxy usage (which connects to established providers like Google Drive or Dropbox), Nebula is a custom-built storage system hosted on a personal server.

It was originally the core of Galyxy, but as the project evolved it became clear that building a full cloud storage service from scratch is a massive undertaking. Nebula lives on as a beta feature for users who want to try it out — with full transparency about what it is and what it isn't.

✦ HOW IT WORKS
  • Files are uploaded in chunks to a Node.js API running on a one-manned Ubuntu server.
  • Files are stored flat on disk, organized by your user ID. There is no encryption in transit or storage.
  • The server is exposed to the internet via Cloudflare Tunnel as a residential connection.
  • You can upload, download, organize, and manage files through the Nebula tab on the Galyxy dashboard.
  • Local syncing to a USB drive is supported via the Local Syncing tab.
✦ THE RISKS
  • No encryption: Anyone with server access can theoretically read your files. This includes Galyxy developers.
  • No uptime SLA: The server is a home machine. Power outages, ISP issues, or maintenance can take it offline without notice.
  • No redundancy: There is one copy of your files. If the drive fails, data is gone.
  • Storage limits: All accounts are capped at 5 GB. This is a hard limit enforced by the server.
  • Beta bugs: Nebula is developed very slowly and by preference. You may encounter errors, data mismatches, or missing features.
✦ WHAT SHOULD USE NEBULA BE USED FOR?

Nebula is fine for:

  • Non-sensitive files like project archives, junk files, or public-facing assets.
  • Developers who want to test Galyxy's features or provide feedback.
  • Users who don't have a Google/Dropbox/OneDrive account and want something simple.

Nebula is not suitable for:

  • Passwords, API keys, or credentials of any kind.
  • Financial records, legal documents, or medical information.
  • Anything you cannot afford to lose.
